The New York Centre of Foreign Policy Affairs (NYCFPA) which is an independent and non- partisan think tank focused on promoting a principled U.S. foreign policy has greatly condemned the recent [inhumane incident] which amounts to a direct breach of international human rights and humanitarian law.

These activities regardless of [sometimes short characterization of event, e.g. targeted violence, torture, mass detentions, extrajudicial, or intentional harm to civilians] are a significant menace to human dignity and international stability. NYCFPA confirms that such infractions require concerted, unrelenting and instant measures by national and international powers.

Federal Response Required from U.S. Government

NYCFPA encourages the U.S Government, the Department of States, USAID, and appropriate Congressional committees to:

  • Provoke a strong public rejection.
  • Take diplomatic action to prevent more abuses.
  • Use tools of accountability and sanctions available in the U.S.
  • Improve humanitarian and monitoring assistance to the impacted societies.

The U.S. leadership is essential to defend human rights standards across the world and to deter the growth.

International Oversight and Intervention Needed

Some of the major institutions in the multilateral and human rights sphere that NYCFPA calls upon to take immediate action include:

  • United Nations human rights council (UNHRC).
  • United Nations High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) Office.
  • United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
  • International Committee of Red Cross (ICRC)
  • ICC (where jurisdiction applies)
  • Organization of Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).
  • Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch (in order to be verified independently).

Such institutions need to mobilize investigative processes, reinforce surveillance operations and analyze avenues to justice and accountability.

Consequences of Inaction on Global Human Rights Norms

Indecisive action will only encourage wrongdoers, a culture of justifications, and suffering further by vulnerable groups. The international society must follow universality of human rights without any political reservations.

NYCFPA’s Commitment to Human Rights and Accountability

NYCFPA is willing to partner with policy makers, civil society groups, and global organizations in order to aid:

  • Transparent investigations
  • Evidence based policy responses.
  • Long-term responsibility institutions.
  • Security measures of communities affected.

Our organization reiterates its commitment towards advancing a foreign policy that is based on justice, accountability and safeguarding of human dignity.
