Today, the New York Center For Foreign Policy Affairs (NYCFPA), a non-profit non-partisan think tank focuses on in-depth examination and evaluation in regard to the U.S. Foreign Policy, expresses a very severe reproach in regards to the recent traffic threat by the Trump administration, which puts at stake the routes occupied by the global trade and threatens the economic stability of nations all over the world.

Inhumane Incident Endangers Global Commerce

This inhumane act is a very drastic extension of coercive action by governments being involved in commercial transactions and other international relations and may cause enormous devastating effects on millions of people around the world who thrive on the continuity of trade. NYCFPA expresses severe concern with the impact on civilian livelihoods, the security of regions and the supply chains around the world.

Call for Coordinated International Action

NYCFPA is calling upon key global players like the World Trade Organization (WTO), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), International Maritime Organization (IMO) to act in concert now and G7/G20 Forums to take a leading role in solving the problems by initiating strong action. Such institutions have to impose strict limitations to prevent these threats, protect trade routes, and respect standards of peaceful financial collaboration.

Threat to International Cooperation

The destabilizing strategy contravenes all foundations of international cooperation, and of economic interdependence, and creates a danger of rolling back the progress made by the international trade liberalization, and driven by international trade. NYCFPA urges the international government and bipartisan political leaders in the U.S. to abandon policies that weaponize the trade infrastructure and other diplomatic tools that can resolve the issue and avert international situations that are against international law and human rights.

Commitment to Policy Solutions

Being the policy research institution, NYCFPA is driven to promote public discussion and policy action which strengthen a safe, fair, and successful worldwide economic system. We are prepared to work in cooperation with those in policymaking positions, civil society, and other global institutions in order to push a solution that will safeguard not only the integrity of global trade but also human dignity.
