New York Center For Foreign Policy Affairs (NYCFPA), an independent and nonpartisan think tank specializing in United States foreign policy and human rights, vehemently opposes the recent order issued by former president Donald Trump to vacate Washington D.C. of homeless people as directly. The order, which was published on August 10, 2025, is an inhumane and unjust move, which disregards the dignity, safety, and more general human rights of thousands of vulnerable individuals.
The Nature and Impact of the Eviction Directive
The dangerous precedent is being created by Trump when he declares that the homeless people will no longer reside in the nation capital without a proper legal basis or legislative support by intending to physically and forcefully remove them and deliver them to another location in the name of eviction.
The policy does not reflect the realities of the complex social-economic life and increases the precarious condition of the over 3,700 homeless people of D.C. who cannot access adequate houses and services. Further, the argument that this initiative is being done to enhance security and cleanliness is in line with official crime statistics which reveal that violent crime rates in the city are at an all boosted level.
Call for Action by Government and International Bodies
The NYCFPA calls upon quick action by major governments and other global agencies to stop this outrageous affront to human rights and social justice. The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness (USICH), among other agencies, need to take radical action in order to end illegal eviction of the homeless.
In the international arena, the United Nations Human Rights Office (OHCHR), the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR), and international human rights best known human rights organizations such as Amnesty International are requested to observe, investigate, and pressure to protect the basic rights of the affected persons.
Human Rights Concerns and Policy Recommendations
Forced eviction of homeless people does not resolve the roots of the problems in the city but this practice can be used as one which insults human dignity. It intensifies social problems, including a lack of affordable housing, ineffective mental health services, and socio-economic inequality in general. Policies that NYCFPA proposes are systemic and humane in nature and focus on permanent housing solutions, increased access to healthcare, and enhanced social services rather than punitive and coercive displacement.
NYCFPA’s Commitment to Human Rights and Policy Solutions
Being a credible think tank which upholds principled, evidence-based foreign policy and statement of human right diagnoses, NYCFPA underlies that the policy should be based on legality, mass appeal, and respect to human dignity. We are advocates of collaborating with policymakers, civil society members, and those people who are directly affected in promoting justifiable sustainable strategies to protect the rights and interests of all people.
