A closer look to America’s interventionist Foreign Policy

The US has more than 750 military bases in over 80 countries. It is heavily involved in different types of global conflicts. In it, Eastern Europe and the Middle East are at the top of the table.  Recently there have been opinions that this nation should increase its involvement.

The Iranian president died in a helicopter crash.  After his death The U.S. has more than 750 military bases in over 80 countries both represent their suggestion in separate articles. According to them, it is good for the United State to assist in overthrowing the Iranian government.

American diplomat Victoria Nuland asked the government to assist. He wants that government to help Ukraine inside Russia. At his request, Biden answered that he will support this plan.

These calls for more involvement in big international conflicts fit with America’s usual aggressive approach. But the United States must rethink its foreign policy before the world faces more challenging situations and problems.

The United State assisted rebels in Afghanistan in the form of money in the late 1970s and ’80s. This also includes the islamist extremists in order to fight against the Soviet Union. Although these fighters did push out the Soviets, later they opposed each other.

In the fight for control, some of these rebels formed the Taliban and al-Qaeda, who carried out the 9/11 attacks.

The US made huge investments in wars in the Middle East. This caused the death of many American soldiers. Also led to hundreds of thousands of civilians being killed, and the government violating Americans’ Fourth Amendment rights by spying on their electronic communications.

After all of this many people still want the United States to interfere in the Middle East. Back in 1953, when the US played a major role to get rid of Iran’s President Muhammad Mosaddegh. The reason behind this removal is that this person opposed the British oil companies. The fear got heavy on the West, they thought that Mosaddegh might side with the Soviets. After the coup, the U.S. put the Shah in power. No doubt that he is in favor of the West but treated his people harshly.

The brutal rules of the Shah made people in Iran against America. This opposition led to a hostage crisis.  The people eventually overthrew the Shah and replaced him with the Islamic Republic. Now, some people want the U.S. to overthrow this new government. But it is not possible now due to the past history.

The aim of the American foreign policy is not promoting democracy abroad. Instead its main purpose is to value loyalty  to Western interests above all else.

It is important for leaders to remember what former Rep. Ron Paul said in 2008. “ terrorists attack us not because we are rich and free, but because we are involved in their regions”.

The key player of the war between Russia and Ukraine is the United State.

Despite the end of the Soviet Union, NATO continued to expand eastward, which George Kennan, a key figure in the US Cold War policy, warned would provoke a negative reaction from Russia.

Furthermore, the US has supported Ukraine in joining NATO. It is a move that is strongly opposed by Russia.

Even though Russia opposed interference in Ukraine, the U.S. supported a coup in 2014 that ousted Ukraine’s elected president, Viktor Yanukovych, after he chose a deal with Russia over the EU. This led to war between Ukraine and Russia.

In 2021, Russia asked NATO to stop expanding in exchange for not invading Ukraine, but the West refused. Then Russia invaded. While wrong, it wasn’t unexpected.

Instead of sending more money and aid to Ukraine, the U.S. should rethink its involvement in Eastern Europe. Without U.S. interference, the current war and its destruction might not have happened.

Everytime, this nation tries to act like the world’s police. The US government tells their citizens that the US is always doing good, helping other countries and resolving many global conflicts. Also they say that this nation plays a major role in making the world safer.

But history reveals the truth.  American interventions have caused unnecessary death and destruction, created instability, increased hatred towards the West, wasted taxpayer money, and eroded our constitutional rights
