The current President of the United States, Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump, both have different views on foreign policy and democratic issues. Below is a simple look at their views on foreign policy.
Ukraine- Russia
The humanitarian and military aid for Ukraine is important to overcome the aggression of Russia. President Joe Biden supports Ukraine for this purpose. The United States helped Ukraine by providing $75 billion after 2022, when Russia invaded Ukraine. This step highlights the seriousness of the US. How this nation takes the threat from Russia President Vladimir Putin.
According to Biden, “Putin of Russia is on the march, invading Ukraine and sowing chaos throughout Europe and beyond. If anybody in this room thinks Putin will stop at Ukraine, I assure you, he will not. But Ukraine can stop Putin if we stand with Ukraine and provide the weapons it needs to defend itself. That is all Ukraine is asking. They are not asking for American soldiers.”
It is important to point out Trump’s recent comment about Ukraine aid. According to him, the US has given more aid to Ukraine than any other country such as NATO countries. At a rally in February, Trump even said he might let Russia do whatever they want to any NATO member that doesn’t spend enough on defense. This kind of statement could not send a positive message regarding international alliances and global security.
During the speech in New Hampshire in 2023, Trump said he will end the war between Russia and Ukraine if he wins the presidency again. Well, this statement contradicts his past issues with Russia during the period of his presidency. Trump was accused of working too closely with
Russia, leading to his impeachment by the House of Representatives on December 18, 2019.
Furthermore, Trump was charged with damaging the information on his political opponent Joe Biden. However, Trump denies these charges.
It is important to keep in mind this situation. Because it can badly impact international relationships and security commitments.
Israel-Palestinian
President Joe Biden focussed on Israel’s rights to protect itself against Hamas. With all of this he also has warned Israel to stop killings in Gaza and also about Plastinians rights. In March, he announced plans to build an offshore port to deliver aid to Gaza.
According to Biden speaking in New York on March 9, 2024, I will always side with Israel. It is not the option to cut off the weapons like Iron Dome. However there are limits that everyone should never cross. It is unacceptable that Israel continues to kill Palestinian to target Hamas and cross the limits of 30,000. There are other ways to address the trauma caused by Hamas.
While, in 2020 , Doland Trump proposed the Middle East peace plan. His plan is in favor of a two-state solution. But he also wants Israel to control a unified Jerusalem and maintain its settlements in the West Bank.
On March 25, 2024, Trump said, “ “What I saw October 7 was one of the saddest things I’ve ever seen. … You have to finish up your war. To finish it up. You got to get it done. And I am sure you will do that. And we got to get to peace; we can’t have this going on. And I will say, Israel has to be very careful, because you’re losing a lot of the world, you’re losing a lot of support, you have to finish up, you have to get the job done. And you have to get on to peace, to get on to a normal life for Israel.”
Iran
For more than two years Biden tried to revive the JCPOA deal. It is the nuclear deal negotiated during the era of Obama before declaring it dead.
Last year, his administration secured the release of five American hostages by unfreezing billions in Iranian assets.
Joe Biden gave the statement on March 7, 2024 in Washington, stability in the Middle East containing Iran’s threat. This is the reason I formed a coalition of over many countries. It protects international shipping and navigation in the Red Sea. I also have ordered a strike to defend US troops. As a leader of this nation, I won’t hesitate to take steps that help to protect our people and military
One of Trump’s proudest achievements was pulling the U.S. out of the JCPOA. He also authorized the strike that killed Qasem Soleimani, the leader of Iran’s Quds Force, which he called “the boldest action of his presidency.”
