NYCFPA criticizes Trump on his statement about warning the EU to buy more oil otherwise ready to pay for tariffs. As part of his expected attempt to boost oil and gas output in the United States, President-elect Donald Trump is threatening to impose tariffs on a group of nations when he takes office. In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed to have warned the European Union that tariffs would be imposed during his next term if it didn’t start importing more American gas and oil. Trump pledged throughout his presidential campaign to increase the production of natural gas and oil produced in the United States in order to regain energy dominance. Trump has specifically stated that he intends to increase fracking and end President Joe Biden’s hold on new export licenses for liquefied natural gas (LNG).

The presidency of Trump is not showing ‌good results towards other nations. Trump has threatened to impose tariffs on several nations, including Canada, Mexico, and China, if they do not take action to protect the border and combat drug trafficking. Trump declared that unless Canada and Mexico take steps to curb the flow of illegal immigration and illegal drugs into the United States, he would impose 25% tariffs on all exports from those nations. Premier of Ontario Doug Ford vowed to stop energy and vital resource exports to the United States if the incoming president imposed a tariff on all Canadian goods in response to Trump’s proposed tariff against Canada. The threat, however, did not deter Trump, who stated,

“That’s okay if he does that.”

Since threatening a new tax, Trump has allegedly had “very productive” talks with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. According to an earlier report, Trudeau informed Trump he couldn’t impose the tariff because it would destroy the Canadian economy entirely when the PM came to Mar-a-Lago to meet with the future president. NYCFPA showed a negative comment on that talk because it is not just a sweet candy for the EU but also makes its dependency on the US more. In that way, Trump is just threatening the EU as well as others, so it should be condemned.
