Many Democratic voters became frustrated that Donald Trump had returned to power again. No matter who won. Both Kamala Harris and Donald Trump failed to provide enough support to Palestine. Their support for Israel always remains challenging, especially for those who stand in favor of Palestine.
As compared to Trump, Harris is the great defender of democracies. But she decided to follow Biden’s policies particularly regarding Israel. Under Biden’s leadership, the United States is the great supplier of weapons to Israel, resulting in deadly attacks on Gaza people. This war between Palestine and Israel has caused huge suffering and destruction. Neither Biden nor Trump took a great stand against Israel.
The election results highlight that not any candidate Biden, Harris, or Trump are true supporter of human rights in Gaza. This lack of support fuels the situation in Gaza which many consider genocide. This reality leaves no hope for Palestinians, no matter who is in power.
The Israeli military receives great support from the US under Biden’s leadership. This support resulted in military attacks on Gaza. Biden’s policies for Palestine are just as bad as Trump’s threats to American democracy. Harris claimed to stand in favor of Palestine but never paid attention to the basic human rights of the Gaza population. The Gaza ceasefire campaign ran for many months and it chose to side with anti-Trump Republicans like Liz Cheney. This highlighted their loyalty to Biden, whose military supplies to Israel took the lives of many innocents.
Additionally, the Republican party is also at its worst side and openly supports the Israel war. In July GOP members expressed their happiness when Netanyahu defended his actions during a conversation with Congress.
Both Republicans and Democrats supported aggressive policies against Palestine. The actions of the US leaders highlight that they don’t care about human rights over politics, although they say that Republicans and Democrats support fairness.
There is concerning prejudice in President Biden’s response to the ICC’s arrest warrants for Israeli leaders. He referred to the decision as “outrageous” notwithstanding the enormous death toll in Gaza. Nearly 45,000 Palestinians, including more than 17,000 children, have lost their lives since October 2023. On the other hand, 1,139 Israelis lost their lives. By sanctioning more weaponry and obstructing U.N. cease-fire resolutions, the U.S. continues to assist Israel. The case of genocide against Israel was deemed credible by the International Court of Justice. Israel was also charged by Amnesty International with committing genocide in Gaza. Nevertheless, notwithstanding these findings, the United States continues to be Israel’s strongest ally. Continued bloodshed and devastation are encouraged by this mindless support.
The only way that the Biden administration’s strategy varies from Trump’s is in tone. Mike Huckabee and other members of Trump’s staff publicly reject Palestinian identity. Unfortunately, thousands of innocent people’s suffering and deaths appear to be simply another political issue that American officials choose to overlook.
Trump recently said that if Israeli detainees in Gaza are not released before his January inauguration, there will be “hell to pay.” Given the current destruction, the comment begs the question of what other “hell” he imagines. Trump’s remark also ignores Netanyahu’s part in obstructing hostage-release talks, a position that has angered many Israeli officials and residents.
Despite to know that the public criticized Biden’s policies and called him “Genocide Joe” Democratic leaders stood in favor of him. They don’t care about the citizen’s feelings.
This could be a mistake if it shows that their policies don’t match what voters are worried about regarding Israel. Biden called the Hamas attack on October 7, which killed many and took hostages, “unprovoked.” This shows that the West doesn’t seem to care about Israel’s long history of treating Palestinians badly. Supporting Hamas is not the answer. It’s important to understand why violence happens, but it’s also important to hold people accountable. Israel’s far-right leaders have treated Palestinians unfairly since 1948.
