NYCFPA STATEMENT ON PRESIDENT BIDEN ENDING US SUPPORT FOR SAUDI ARABIA LED OFFENSIVE OPERATIONS IN YEMEN
WASHINGTON, DC – The New York Center for Foreign Policy Affairs (NYCFPA) commends President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken for taking swift and decisive action by ending US support for Saudi led offensive operations in Yemen.
Our organization believes that this is a critical issue that faces the global community. The destruction and ongoing suffering in Yemen has been an ongoing issue that must be addressed. Although we are ecstatic about this step in the right direction in regards to creating peace in the Middle East, there is still a plethora of work to be done.
We must remind President Biden that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is not the only aggressor in the region. As widely documented, the United Arab Emirates is actively exacerbating the two most serious human rights crises facing our global community. Along with the demonstrated aggression in Yemen, the UAE is also actively involved in the continued loss of life and deteriorating human rights conditions in Libya.
Justin Russell, the NYCFPA’s Principal Director, states, “Our team is cautiously optimistic that President Biden and his administration will do the right thing by ending US support for UAE’s actions and relevant arm sales. While the Biden administration continues to advocate for peace and diplomatic solutions in the Middle East, the United States must hold all parties involved in the region’s conflicts accountable for their actions. We are encouraged by today’s announcement, however, the NYCFPA will continue to seek justice from the courts to ensure a complete stop to any arms deal involving the UAE. Our lawsuit to stop the arms sales to the UAE will continue to move forward.”
